Board of Directors

The Valdez Convention & Visitors Bureau is a non-profit organization (501(c)6) and the official tourism marketing entity for the City of Valdez.

The organization is governed by its by-laws and guided by a Board of Directors. The Board of Directors are residents of Valdez in accordance to the corporations by-laws. Each 3rd Monday of each month, the board of directors meet. When a Monday falls on a Public Holiday, the meetings are moved to the next working where possible.

Sonja Hursh

Sonja Hursh drove up to Valdez Alaska by way of the Alcan with her family in 1975. After 40 years of working and raising a family and being an involved community member, she decided to open a Bed and Breakfast, Alaska Forget Me Not, Valdez B & B. In addition to working for First National Bank Alaska, she owns and operates her B & B and manages her real estate properties. Sonja has enjoys outdoor activities, construction projects, and spending time with family.  She is grateful to be a board member on the Valdez CVB and being a part of the tourism industry.  Her passion is driven by seeing Valdez as the ultimate year around vacation destination.

The Valdez Convention & Visitors Bureau (VCVB) is a highly entrepreneurial organization that collaborates and partners with municipal, community and business organizations to promote Valdez as the preferred travel destination within Alaska.

Valdez's location, picturesque setting, outstanding fishing, world class snow sports, spectacular glacier and flightseeing tours, excellent hotels and meeting space, cultural attractions and variety of retailing and restaurant experiences offer value driven experiences.

Capitalizing on the resources that Valdez has to offer is at the core of the Valdez Convention & Visitors Bureau mission. What sets the organization apart is its innovative and entrepreneurial approach to driving economic impact in our region.
