About Discover Valdez

Discover Valdez (Valdez Convention & Visitors Bureau) is a highly entrepreneurial nonprofit DMO (Destination Marketing Organization) started in 1983. Discover Valdez was created to encourage and promote tourism, tourist activities, travel to and through Valdez, convention business, and maintaining an interest in the well-being of visitors.

What we Do:

We are a membership-based organization, working in tandem with the City of Valdez, local businesses, and individual members to increase tourism and grow the economy of Valdez. We partner with municipal, community and business organizations to promote Valdez as the preferred destination within Alaska.We encourage and promote tourism and tourist-related activities, convention business, and travel by the public in the Valdez area. We also maintain a continuing interest in the well-being of our visitors. 

Valdez's location, picturesque setting, outstanding fishing, world class snow sports, spectacular glacier and flight-seeing tours, excellent hotels and meeting spaces, cultural attractions, and variety of retailing and restaurant opportunities offer our visitors a prime destination to create memorable experiences.

Valdez Visitors Information Center

Discover Valdez operates the Valdez Visitor Information Center, which is open year-round.

SUMMER HOURS: We are open Tuesday to Friday, 10am - 6pm; Saturday and Sunday 10am - 4pm. On Cruise ship arrival days we will be open at 8am.

As a non-profit organization (501(c)6), we support the City of Valdez as a separate entity, as the Destination Marketing Organization of Valdez. We are governed by our by-laws and guided by a Board of Directors. The Board of Directors are residents of Valdez in accordance with the corporation's by-laws.

Membership

Our members are local businesses and non-profit organizations in Valdez and our neighboring communities in Prince William Sound and the Copper River Valley. We currently have members in Valdez, Cordova, Glennallen, Copper Center, Chitina, Kennecott/McCarthy, and Chistochina. Other members are based in Fairbanks, Anchorage, and Delta Junction.
